Many people are familiar with the fig tree generation prophecy, namely that the generation that sees Israel (the Fig Tree) become a nation will not pass away until everything in Matthew 24 has taken place. What I am about to share brings an order of magnitude more clarity and prophetic significance to these verses.

There are some skeptics that doubt that the modern state of Israel is the Fig Tree or question what date actually starts the fig tree generation. By the end of this post there will be little doubt that the Fig Tree generation started in 1948.

Now learn the parable from the fig tree: as soon as its branch has become tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near; so you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door. Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. — Matthew 24:32–34

First let’s establish that the Fig Tree represents Israel in this context by quoting from Joel:

For a nation (Rome) has come up against My land,Strong, and without number…He has laid waste My vine,And splintered (scattered) My fig tree;He has stripped it bare and thrown it away; Its branches are made white (burnt to ash). — Joel 1:6–7

With this verse we know that YHVH has a “Fig Tree” and we know that it has been compared to “My Land”. After the 70 AD destruction of the temple, the Romans renamed the land Palestine. His land didn’t regain its name until May 14th, 1948. The Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel and the United States recognized the government on the same day. This is the date that that many believe His Fig Tree started to come back to life and put forth green shoots. Notice how this contrasts with the branches being made white. For now, we will assume that May 14th, 1948 represents the start of the fig tree generation and see what we can prove with scripture.

What Must be Complete?

How do we know it ends with the Abomination of Desolation? Because everyone in Israel (Judea) is told to flee to the mountains, wilderness, or likely Mt. Sinai, flown on eagles (angel’s) wings.

“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains…. — Matthew 24:15–16

If Israel came back to the land in 1948, then it leaves the land immediately after the abomination of desolation.

Defining a Generation

We now must identify the length of time of a generation, which most people immediately go to Psalm 90. This is the same Psalm that also defines a day for YHVH as 1000 years.

Lord, you have been our (Israel’s) dwelling place in all generations…
As for the days of our (Israel’s, plural) life (a generation), they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty (80) years. Yet their pride (the last years) is labour (travail, birth) and sorrow (beginning of sorrows, tribulation); for it (the years) is soon (quickly, shortly) cut off and we (plural) fly away. — Psalm 90:1, 10

Every interpretation of this verse I have seen only extracts that a generation is 70 to 80 years long; however, as I have highlighted above, this verse is far, far more prophetic and contains much more information than anyone I have seen has realized. I must give Aaron from GodAMinute a nod for pointing out one of the many connections I bring you now and starting me on this journey of discovery, praise Yah!

Let us assume for a moment that Yeshua was referring to Psalm 90:10 when he said “this generation”. Then by definition, Israel will reach 80 years old, but at her height (her last years) is when she will give birth (travail, labor) and the “beginning of sorrows” spoken of Yeshua take place. Then we are told that the years are “soon” or “shortly” cut off at 80 and then “we” fly away.

And if those days (that generation) had not been cut short (soon cut off), no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect (chosen ones, Israel) those days will be cut short. — Matthew 24:22

Notice that Yeshua also symbolically links Matthew to Psalm 90:10 by mentioning “days” and “cut short” and “the elect, Israel” in the same verse!

Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman (Israel) who **gave birth** to the male Child. But the woman (Israel) was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might **fly** into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. — Revelation 12:13–14

Here, in Revelation, we see a woman who had just given birth. What happened in the last days of the 80 years? “labour, travail, birth”. Who is this woman? Israel. And what does she do… she fly’s away! Just like Psalm 90:10 describes.

What happens if we expand the context of Psalm 90:10… what happens after “we fly away”?

Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. — Psalm 90:11

And what happens after the Abomination of Desolation at the midpoint of the tribulation? The 3rd woe!

And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they (2 witnesses) ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men (water from the serpent) seven thousand (7000). …
The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
…And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come
— Revelation 11

This is linked to Revelation 12

And the serpent cast out of his mouth water (armies) as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth (Earthquake), and swallowed up the flood (army of 7000) which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. — Revelation 12:15–17

And what was the lesson from Psalm 90:10–11?

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom! Return, O YHVH, how long? — Psalm 90:12

And there you have it, right there in context. Psalm 90:10–11 are directly telling us the count until his return! We can directly connect the symbols of Psalm 90 to events described in Matthew and Revelation.

Pulling it All Together

Here is the Timeline that I put together in my prior videos. Notice that 80 years from May 1948 puts us at May 2028, which aligns perfectly with the abomination of desolation, the 2000 years to the cross, the 1290+1335 years from the first taking away of sacrifices, and the 70th Jubilee.

Is May 1948 the start of the Fig Tree generation? The abundant witnesses would seem to confirm that theory.
