LONDON - National Grid said it was confident Britain would have sufficient electricity supplies this winter despite the closure of some nuclear units and uncertainly over coal plant availability, although said there could periods of tightness.

"While we remain confident there is sufficient supply to meet peak demand, we should prepare for some tight periods during the winter," National Grid's Electricity System Operator (ESO) said in an early winter outlook published on Thursday.
