LONDON (Bywire News) - The future of Eden was very much up for debate in a question and answer session with Brandon Fancher and Mike Manfredi of ClarionOS. With Dan Larimer working on his much anticipated white paper, the future of Eden would seem to be very much up for grabs.

“I think Dan’s mind is completely absorbed on the white paper and what comes next,” says Mike Manfredi. “we originally saw it as an evolution of Eden. I think it will be something which runs in parallel. It’s different enough in that we’re going to want to write the code from scratch anyway. Our intention is not to disrupt Eden as it is.”

Much of what happens will depend on the white paper from Dan Larimer and how it will be received. If the reception is overall positive, he suggests, we could see an Eden in its current form being voluntarily retired into the next system. Alternatively, we could see a completely distinct entity being offered in parallel. A migration path between the two would enable those who wanted to move away from the old Eden to do so.

Essentially it all boils down to two scenarios:

  • The white paper fails to inspire, in which case people will drift back to Eden.
  • People like the white paper and Eden as it stands fades away.

For ClarionOS, meanwhile, it means all attention is being focused on this new iteration. Plans for their original social media application is currently on hold indefinitely. However, don’t expect Larimer to give up on the idea of social altogether. “Dan is very committed to social so some form of social. We’ve stated before we’re huge fans of violet garden,” he adds. “That idea of giving Eden members a means of communication that’s reliable and incentivised – that’s a big piece of the plan.”

Brandon Fancher added that the future will be very much up to Eden.

“Eden on EOS community is an independent self-governing community at this point,” he said. “I don’t know what the future holds about which way we encourage it to go but that’s ultimately up to Eden.”

Much, then, remains up in the air, but it seems the two might be running in parallel initially, and it will be the community that decides what happens. However, the optimism for EOS and Eden is palpable. The chain, suggests Manfredi, is in search of a killer app – one which brings more people into the ecosystem and demonstrates its value.

“If we build a reason to come to EOS, everyone who comes to EOS who already had to learn meta mask and $50 transactions,” says Manfredi “if all they have to learn is this is the Anchor Wallet and this is how it works if they learn a few details about EOS… they come for this app and then they realise I’m not paying fees all the time. I’m paying cents, or fractions of cents to get anything done and I can do a bunch of stuff it’s going to become obvious that we have the best chain out there.”

Compatibility with other chains

One of the key features will be supported to make it as easy as possible for new users to migrate away from Ethereum and onto EOS. There is already a considerable amount of work being done on the EVM mirroring the great strides Telos has already made. They have an EVM in place which makes any Ethereum contract portable with minimum effort onto EOSIO.

Having this in place, which can smooth the passage from other chains onto EOSIO will be crucial to its future. There is a huge amount of educational work to be done in order to convince people that EOS is the way to go.

Ultimately, everything is a case of wait and see. We do not yet know what form Eden 2 will take, or how the whitepaper will be received. However, Eden, like most of EOS, is in a state of development. How new iterations are received by the community will determine the direction it takes.
