Eden Kick-off Meeting with Yves La Rose

As the latest group of chief delegates get their feet under the table, they took the time to sit down with Yves La Rose to review progress and look to the future.

LONDON (Bywire News) - Eden has a brand new shiny set of chief delegates. To celebrate they all got together on YouTube for a kick-off meeting with Yves La Rose. This is the second of these meetings, with the ENF founder taking the opportunity last time to express his frustration at Eden’s lack of progress so far. So, this was the perfect opportunity to find out how he thinks things have changed.

The good news is that, for the most part, he seems to be pretty positive. He describes himself as ‘pleasantly surprised’ at the progress made by the last group of chief delegates despite a few tense moments.

“Last term was interesting. Because it was the first time that the chief delegates had large disagreements and got heated on multiple occasions,” he said. “What I really liked about the last term was that despite the fundamental vision differences and personal differences, they were able to get things done and make concessions to move it forward.”

The last term saw a number of positive developments with progress on the member removal function and a change in the disbursements to chief delegates to 15% from 5%. Meanwhile, Edenia played an important role in providing tech support to the ecosystem and, for La Rose, there is a real sense that, for the first time, Eden has the tools it needs to run itself.

Concerns will remain, especially regarding how Eden is funded and what support will be forthcoming from the ENF. In the main, though, things are looking good, with Eden’s revolutionary fractal voting process showing signs of value for organisations beyond the confines of Eden and EOS.

Introducing the new chief delegates?

So, what can we expect this time around? Well, this meeting was also an opportunity to meet the new set of chief delegates.

Two are familiar. Head chief delegate is Jess Jaffe of EOS Bees. He’ll be focusing on whitelisting solutions for members on Wax and EOS. Serial chief delegate Chris Barnes is back for his third crack of the whip and is the only chief delegate to have been retained after the last election.

He’s keen to continue his work bringing more people into Eden and has also been active in promoting the voting process for other organisations and developing the dispute resolution process implemented in the last term.

Among the other chief delegates is Xavier Fernandez the brother of former chief delegate Edgar Fernandez of Edenia. Xavier was part of the team that transferred the Eden platform from Fractally to the community-managed platform it now has.

Chris Waxa, communications manager of Helios said he will focus on defining Eden as a DAO structure and building that into a website.

Last but not least Reiki Cordon of Hypha DAO and SEEDS Economy. He’ll be looking at ways to take Eden's tools and apply them to new economic systems. He has joined up on Eden to see how we coordinate, what its main mission is and how they can take them to address the practical needs people have.

This, then, is the latest group of people to take Eden forward. Progress has been made, but they still have many challenges. Can they nail down the problematic issue of what Eden should be, and can they get more people to take part?

One of the biggest concerns for La Rose is the relatively low level of participation of the membership in Eden members. The last election attracted the participation of just 18% and only a few of those really attempted to move on to the latter stages of the election. Given Eden’s ambitions to offer a more consensus-driven alternative to traditional political systems, such a low level of the voting share will be concerning.
