LONDON - More companies suffered insolvency last year in England and Wales than any time since 2009, according to government figures released on Tuesday.

Total insolvencies rose by 57% from their 2021 level to reach 22,109 in 2022.

"The increase compared to 2021 was driven by the highest annual number of Creditors' Voluntary Liquidations (CVLs) since the start of the series in 1960," the government's Insolvency Service agency said.
