LONDON (Within the Law) - A top US law firm has moved into the UK with the acquisition of London based Kerman & Co. The move sees Teasdale expand outside the US for the first time.

With a history stretching back more than a century, Armstrong Teasdale has 12 offices across the US with a headquarters in St Louis and a presence in New York and Las Vegas. It recently opened a new location in Delaware.

Kerman & Co is a reputable mid-market firm in the UK Legal 500. Based in London’s West End, it lists specialism in M&A, capital markets, sport and private client services and also offers expertise in IP, litigation, employment, immigration and real estate.

This new move will signal the start of a new expansion in Europe led by Daniel O’Connell who will become head of Europe.

“We are excited about the opportunity to chart a new path for the firm in London, as well as broaden the offering we can provide to clients internationally,” he said. “As you would imagine, this is not an opportunity taken lightly, and it has been carefully considered over a period of time. We are very much looking forward to further developing our London office, whilst building a strong bridge into Europe under the Armstrong Teasdale brand.”

Although many law firms from the AM 200 have offices in the UK, few have actively set out to acquire other firms. The move will add more than 50 lawyers to their roster, and boost the number of fee earners by 340.

David Braswell, Armstrong Teasdale’s managing partner, said: “We have long served clients around the world. The growth opportunity in London is tremendous, and it quickly became clear in conversations that Kerman & Co’s goals were well-aligned with Armstrong Teasdale’s strategic vision.”
