LONDON - (Bywire News) After much anticipation and fanfare, bated breath and requests for more patience and space to innovate, Block.one, the publishers of the EOSIO blockchain software have released their candidate of EOSIO™ 2, the highly anticipated Version 2 of its EOSIO protocol [blockchain software].
With EOSIO Quickstart Web IDE, new developers can go from start to ready-to-build in minutes, something rarely seen in today’s complex blockchain space.
“Block.one is delivering on what we promised for EOSIO 2,” said Dan Larimer, CTO of Block.one.
“With enhanced performance and support for the latest web authentication standard, we’ve made using blockchain applications even easier for the masses. By lowering the costs and increasing the protocol’s scalability, Block.one is continuing to make EOSIO the fastest, most secure and easiest to use protocol on the market today.”
At the heart of this latest update is the development of EOS VM, a high-performance WebAssembly (WASM) engine specialised for applications built on EOSIO. Internal benchmarking shows the release of EOS VM offers up to a 16x performance gain over EOSIO 1.0, resulting in dramatically increased processing times of smart contracts.
EOSIO is now the first blockchain protocol to adopt WebAuthn authentication standards to bring greater security and usability to applications built on the EOSIO platform. WebAuthn allows the use of a hardware device for authenticating and signing transactions in a browser without extensions or other third-party software installed on a user’s device.
As we travel to tomorrow's world, no longer will the blockchain be seen as a distant technology summit, only dared scaled by those with unrivalled computer science skills and technological genius. As the EOSIO Public Blockchain community prepares to deliver the Version 2 upgrade, there is only one project on everyone’s mind; Voice.com.
Make no mistake, this is not a typical software update or hard fork. This is a revolution in blockchain technology that is almost certain to evolve the way we think and feel about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Why? Because with EOSIO™ 2, Block.one just thrust blockchain technology into the mainstream, making it accessible and useful to all, improving our lives by providing immutability. With immutability comes accountability. Ownership of our words and actions have been lacking of late, as have consequences. Perhaps lessons from the Milgram shock experiment are too quickly forgotten or ignored. Sticks and stones are not the only things that lead to broken souls.
When social media shifted from Myspace to Facebook, everything changed, the same will occur as we shift from Facebook to Voice, and EOSIO™ 2 is technically critical to this evolution.
The notion of social media is positive; digital platforms that safely allow social interactions, sharing of photos and videos, the creation and strengthening of friendships and bonds and even romance, with users entitled to a reasonable level of privacy and trust. Of course, as we know, today’s incarnation of social media is quite different.
Some of the major social media behemoths dominating the space at present lack accountability. They actively fight regulations, claim privacy is a thing of the past while amassing unprecedented amounts of personal data from their users, selling it to the highest bidder. Shady algorithms are destroying our politics and reinforcing our bias. The deterioration has continued with the live streaming of terror attacks, shootings, fights and rapes, with videos being left online for days or weeks, often not removed until criticism from the press or a public outcry. The encouragement of suicide and the general demise of one’s self-worth or human value. These are the symptoms of social media today. Surely, we can do better.
Voice.com, as part of the wider blockchain revolution will do just that offering “Social as it should be”. It will usher in an era free of “robo-mobs” “bot armies” and “catfish”. No more burner accounts, no more pretend versions of who we are. Voice.com boasts an authentication system to make sure every user is an actual person. Prepare to return to personal accountability if you wish to participate.
In addition, like Bywire News, Voice users can earn an income from their social media postings. As their posts become more popular, generating more engagement and visibility, the more Voice tokens the poster will earn. Users can utilise these tokens to Voice things that they wish to hear, finally elevating their Voice above the crowd. If someone with more Voice tokens speaks over you, then you get your tokens back, which may be reused to Voice something else, or to support the opinions of others. No personal data is collected, therefore none is sold. Unlike other social media platforms, Voice.com users are not considered as the product, they are in fact the customer. Cherished, respected and valued.
So, what is new with EOSIO™ 2? The four major components include:
A high-performance WebAssembly (WASM) engine specialised for blockchain applications that facilitates more efficient use of system resources when processing smart contracts. In Block.one’s internal benchmarking, EOS VM has achieved a 16x performance increase in smart contract processing time over Binaryen, which was originally released with EOSIO 1.0.
EOSIO Quickstart Web IDE
A powerful new web-based development tool for building EOSIO applications that is aimed at dramatically reducing the barriers for new developers, who usually face a daunting multi-step process. Now in the alpha support stage, the EOSIO Quickstart Web IDE can be set up in minutes and run in any browser, regardless of RAM and CPU related system requirements.
EOSIO support for WebAuthn is a step towards secure and seamless transaction signing without needing to keep track of private keys or other account information. With this release of WebAuthn support for EOSIO, developers can begin testing transaction signing with WebAuthn in their EOSIO applications.
Weighted Threshold Multi-Signature Block Production Support
To provide block producers with a complete high availability solution to efficiently maintain block production, EOSIO 2 features support for Weighted Threshold Multi-Signature Block Production. Block producers are able to securely sign blocks by utilising a permission layer that allows for multiple block signing keys in a flexible scheme without sharing any sensitive data.
