LONDON (Bywire News) - Pomelo is up and running giving you the chance to support your favourite EOS projects. The project, which draws on a similar model to Gitcoin on Ethereum, is a crowdfunding platform run on EOS designed to help anyone who has an idea to create and develop a project on the EOS blockchain, for the public good.

From now until the 28th of November, anyone can create their own proposal and open it up for supporters. People can then donate EOS to any project they like up to the beginning of December. All funds provided by community members will be matched from a pool of $500,000 provided by the EOS Network Foundation using an innovative quadratic funding mechanism which has already proved highly successful, granting over $20million of Ethereum.

The way in which quadratic funding works is highly complicated. Essentially, though, it focuses more on the number of people making donations than the amount raised. It amplifies funding made by large numbers of small donors over donations from a small number of players with big pockets.

This is the ideal way to fund projects which can be classed as public goods – namely those which are available to everyone, and in which use by one member will not decrease the overall availability for everyone else. Funding such projects is usually very difficult because, while they may benefit the wider community, they’re not going to make anyone a huge amount of money for the creators, Pomelo changes all of this.

As such, even a single donation of a single EOS will make a significant difference to these projects. It has enabled many exciting projects which can improve the overall EOS network to attract support. Here are some of the best.

  1. Greymass

If you’re working on EOS, there’s a chance you’ve used Greymass without even knowing it. Three years ago, they started offering free publicly available APIs for the EOS community. Since then, their APIs have received hundreds of billions of requests with wallets, block holders and application using them to get the information they need. The APIs were also crucial in helping Greymass develop their highly popular projects such as Anchor and Unicove to the community free of charge.

  1. Violet Garden

If you were disappointed when Voice.com pivoted to the world of NFTs, don’t worry, because now you’ve got Violet Garden. Previously only available to Eden Members, it is now seeking to onboard everyone on the EOS community. It picks up where Voice.com left off creating a compelling social media platform based on the EOS network.

  1. EOS Support

Working on the front line, it focuses on onboarding new members and making the process of transitioning as easy as possible. By educating new users and combating misinformation EOS support will play a valuable role in supporting the success of the mainnet into the future.

  1. EOS Bees

At a time when public opinion on EOS is mixed to say the least, EOS Bees is possibly one of the most important projects on the network. These busy bees – thoughts to be inspired from the Bees Army, or Geish al-Nahl who were an anti-government Twitter propaganda movement in Saudi Arabia - are developing a grassroots marketing project designed to combat negative perceptions and misinformation relating to EOS. Using PR and marketing tools, they will combat negative perceptions which suppress activity on EOS. They aim to promote a positive EOS culture and promote a more diverse set of EOS investors and participants.

  1. Tipit

Non fungible tokens are becoming increasingly popular and Tipit believes it could be a way to introduce more participants to the EOS ecosystem. It introduces other EOS based tokens, rewards contributors, creates promotions and will soon be generating and distributing NFTs. It currently consists of a friendly bot on Discord, Telegram, Twitter, Github, Twitch and tipi.io supporting more than 70 EOSIO tokens on EOS, Telos and Wax. By depositing tokens directly into their tipit wallets, influences can raise awareness about their projects and their unique tokens – as well as rewarding users for engagement.

  1. NFT Standards for NFT Decentralised storage

This technical white paper aims to set a standard for NFT storage on EOS. In making their proposal, they acknowledge that EOS is lagging behind many of its competitors. Part of the reason is the lack of NFTs. These are the most popular track in the crypto world at the moment and will play an important role in the future. However, EOS lacks any unified NFT standard. This paper sets out to solve this problem, creating a standard with the help of other block producers and wallets. This, they say, will have a number of advantages over NFTs on Ethereum due to low transaction fees, Support for RAM optimisation and reduced resource costs.

  1. Overwatch

When most normal people think about cryptocurrencies or the blockchain the first thing which springs to mind is trading. For all its risks, it’s the one thing which attracts more people to this space than anything else. Without traders, markets wouldn’t work, and this is one area in which EOS is lacking. Overwatch plans to give EOS a trading and volume focus, on-chain analysis tools, and APIs to empower regular users while making the EOS main net more attractive to traders from all around the crypto-sphere.

Using its own API, it will offer a number of features including real time displays of all EOS main NET transactions, highlighting big sellers and buyers, displaying the prices at which assets are bought or sold.

  1. Boid Universe

This innovative take on the play-to-earn model has been around since 2018 and has already been installed on more than 7,000 machines. It incentivises players to contribute their spare computing power to solve some of the world’s most serious diseases while being rewarded for their time in the game.

  1. EOS Authority Wallet

The EOS Authority is one of the founding block producers. Their block explorer and wallet has extensive features to interact with the Blockchain. The services work with all popular wallets including mobile wallets. It’s the only platform which supports key blockchain functionality such as REX for passive income and power up features for lost keys, among additional features. Users can add multiple wallets and save them along with easy switching from phone or to a different desktop.

  1. EOS Starter

Successful EOS projects mean a successful EOS – that’s the ethos behind EOSTARTER. A community powered incubator and gamified launchpad for EOS projects. EOS Starter state they aim to become a beacon of innovation for the EOS ecosystem and provide equalitarian investment opportunities for the EOS community.

And one for luck: EOS in a Box

EOS in a box uses the hardware security you have on your mobile phone to allow you to send payments or log into a dApp. All you have to do is show your face or fingerprint to prove its you and the phone will sign the transaction without revealing the private keys. Because these live in your phone you can pick trusted people to mint a new key if you lose your phone. It’s so simple, they say,

These are just a few of the exciting projects tearing it up on Pomelo right now. You can see others on their website, including our own project. Every donation – even if it’s just a single EOS will make a huge different, so if you want to help us combat disinformation and transform media, head over there to take a look.
