LONDON (Bywire News) - On Tuesday, Amazon announced its plans to recruit 20,000 temporary workers for the Christmas season, as this will be a peak time for sales. Like most other businesses in the UK, Amazon will be left fighting for available workers.

Amazon, which currently has 55,000 permanent employees stated that the temporary workers would be placed in fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery stations.

The minimum pay for these roles would begin at a minimum of £10 per hour, with some receiving £11.10 depending on where in the UK they are located. The rates will work in line with the recent pay rise given to permanent employees.

Workers are also needed to help make deliveries for somewhere between £13 to £15 an hour.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that warehouses are offering 30% higher pay to workers. Due to the vast shortage of available employees there is already a lot of pressure on supply chains just before Christmas.

The labour shortages come hand in hand with a rise in gas prices, both as a result of Brexit and COVID.

An Amazon-ally stated that it had not yet experienced delays in delivering to customers.
