LONDON (Within The Law) - Hogan Lovells and Fieldfisher have been doing their bit for the pandemic response by advising on a food redistribution deal on a pro bono basis. The firms helped broker the acquisition of FareShare’s London operations by charity the Felix Project.

Food poverty has been a major feature of the pandemic. However, the problem was growing even before the crisis. According to the Trussel Trust demand for food banks had been rising steadily over the past few years but the pandemic had put into overdrive with a 47% increase in the number of food parcels delivered.

Hogan Lovells advised the Felix Project on the purchase of FareShae’s Deptford Depot, which sees them become one of the largest end to end food redistribution projects in Europe.

With this new capacity, they will be able to boost their food distribution capacity by 100 tonnes per week allowing it to reach all London boroughs.

FieldFisher, meanwhile provided their partner Mark Nash and Senior Associate Karen McGinley to represent FareShare.“This is an exciting, game-changing development for The Felix Project,” commented Mark Curtin, The Felix Project’s CEO, adding: “Having successfully grown to redistribute the equivalent of 7.1 million meals in the first half of 2020, partnering with our friends at FareShare will mean that Felix will be able to continue to grow across the whole of London and get much more food to those communities that need us.”

Felix and FareShare will also be working on a mutual collaboration agreement as part of the deal, strengthening their ongoing partnerships.
