Probate Researchers Ignore Social Distancing

The Association of Probate Researchers have said it is shocked at reports that researchers have been flouting lockdown rules by visiting beneficiaries from wills.

LONDON (WithinTheLaw) - Reports have been circulating that at least one company has been visiting people in their own home unannounced.

The probate sector has found it challenging to carry out their work and obtain the required authorisations while still respecting the principals of lockdown. Some have introduced a kerbside service which allows their researchers to speak to beneficiaries and get wills signed without the need for contact.

However, the law is vague and experts have been calling on the Government to introduce emergency legislation which makes it possible for probate researchers to manage proceedings surrounding wills and the management of an estate within the restrictions of lockdown.

The APR has also reminded its members that they are expected to respect social distancing at all times and should refrain from direct contact with individuals. It’s worth remembering that heirs tend to be from the oldest surviving generation which often puts them into a higher risk category. Any direct contact, therefore, puts themselves and their family at risk.
