WASHINGTON (Bywire News) - A new blockchain based social media platform has brought its launch forward to July 4, as it attempts to offer an alternative take on social media. The launch of Voice had been scheduled for later in the year, but CEO Sala Zalatimo took to Twitter to announce the decision due to the urgent need to ‘take back social media from big tech now.’

About Voice

Last year saw a number of crypto controversies strike the big names such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. This demonstrated a need for a decentralised system which would eliminate monopolised authority in content.

In response Block.one, which created EOSIO, decided to kick off the Voice Project which runs on the EOSIO protocol and is being built on top of the EOS public blockchain.

Building transparency and authenticity

The project aims to promote transparency and give users control of a social media platform, via a blockchain based system. All interactions on the platform will be made public which will bring a much-needed element of transparency to the social media scene. Users will actually be real people. No trolls, no multiple anonymous accounts, no bots, just real people making real social interactions while earning Voice tokens.

The choice of July 4th, or Independence Day, therefore, is far from a coincidence. From day one, it will be made available to readers, although only registered users will be able to publish content. Registration will be by request until August 15th after which users can start to invite their friends.

Voice has been available in beta version since the 14th of February for American users. Block.one paid $30 million for the domain name, Voice.com, setting a record for the highest price ever paid for a domain. Those who are already registered will be able to use the platform from the launch date. Everyone else will have to wait until August.

Users to get Voice token rewards

Voice will reward users with voice tokens every time they create and distribute content. In other words, it will be a tokenised version of ad revenue-based platforms such as Facebook or Twitter.

Block.one has already made a major investment into the platform. It sank $150 million into the platform earlier in the year and set a new record when it paid $30 million for the domain. With this investment, they expect the social media platform to be able to function independently.

Back in March EOSIO parent firm Block.one acquired EOS New York core developers which resulted in the website shutting down and redirecting visitors to Block.one.
