LONDON (Bywire News) - According to many people, 2022, as well as seeing real growth in the NFT infrastructure, will also be big for DAOs. As a result, there will be the birth of various DAOs and tokens linked to them which, in theory, will offer real profits for many people – especially the creators of the DAOs themselves.
But before delving into this sector, we must try to understand what these DAOs are. To do that we have to first answer the question of what is the largest DAO in the world. We can do so by examining some of the fundamental parameters of DAOs.
What is a DAO?
DAO is an acronym standing for ‘Decentralized Autonomous Organization – a sort of company/organisation which follows a direction of travel based on the choices made by the token holders who vote on each relative decision.
These companies and organisations are not controlled in a centralised way, in other words, they are not controlled by a single team or administrative body. Control instead is shared between all token holders, who direct the work of the organisation by voting on various key decisions.
For example, they could decide whether to buy a certain asset or to carry out a specific collaboration for a project. The organisation will finalise each decision based on what the community itself has deliberated and voted. This ensures an alignment between what the users or group wants and what the organisation actually does.
How does a DAO work?
Given the decentralised nature of DAOs, the blockchain has always been perfect for this kind of operation. The DAO is built on top of a blockchain via a smart contract which means we are talking about a real dApp.
Users can freely access their wallet/account with a tool based on the token of the DAO itself, they can vote and express their opinions directly on any decisions being made. It is, therefore, a direct form of democracy in which everyone can vote as long as they have the right tool.
Each proposal remains active for a predefined period of time and ends with people seeing the result of the community’s decision. This can then be implemented.
Examples of DAO
The idea sounds a world away from the traditional centralised view of corporations. However, there are already a number of DAOs both legal and with no legal form behind them. A great example is the American CryptoFed DAO. This DAO – based on the EOS blockchain and operating out of Wyoming – is the first in the world to be legally recognised in America.
It has all the elements required to create a DAO with a very specific objective. There are also platforms that allow people to create DAO’s automatically such as DAO Bull.
What is the largest DAO in the world?
So, having determined what a DAO is and shown some examples, we can now answer our main question: what is the biggest DAO in the world? To understand and identify this DAO we need to consider the capitalisation of the DAO token and also the relative number of token holders. The larger these numbers are, the greater the decentralisation of the DAO
To compare DAOs we can use a site that suggests, Uniswap, as a candidate for the title. It is bursting with 307,000 token holders and a capitalisation of $2.1 billion. Impressive stuff, but unfortunately this is not the largest DAO in the world. That title belongs to the EOS blockchain. This is a DAO in which the token holders can all vote and make decisions together with the block producers. This has helped EOS achieve $2.7 billion dollars of capitalisation and with over 3.2 million token holders. This not only makes it the largest but also the most decentralised DAO in the world.

Qual è la DAO più grande del mondo?
In molti credono che il 2022, oltre ad avere una componente legata agli NFT, vedrà anche il boom ed il fenomeno legato alle DAO e di conseguenza ci saranno la nascita di varie DAO e di vari token legate alle stesse che, in teoria, saranno profittevoli per molti, e certamente per i creatori della DAO stesso.
Ma prima di addentrarci in questo settore, dobbiamo prima capire cosa sono queste DAO per capire il loro funzionamento e rispondere alla domanda quale sia la DAO più grande del mondo, che come vedremo si può comprendere facilmente prendendo in esame alcuni parametri interessanti e fondamentali.
Cosa è una DAO?
Iniziamo dalla parola stessa di DAO che è un acronimo e significa Decentralized Autonomous Organization, ossia una organizzazione autonoma e decentralizzata, una sorta di azienda/organizzazione che segue una direzione in base alle scelte fatte da chi vota sulle relative decisioni e quindi dai possessori del token.
Infatti il controllo di queste aziende/organizzazioni non è centralizzato in un solo team o organo di amministrazione, ma viene ripartito tra tutti i token holder che votando sulle varie decisioni, indirizzano l’operato dell’organizzazione se fare o non fare alcune cose.
In quest’ottica, ad esempio, in una DAO si potrebbe decidere se acquistare un determinato bene o se fare una determinata collaborazione per un progetto, in cui di solito c’è un quesito a cui bisogna votare in maniera positiva o negativa, oppure tra una serie di scelte determinate con altri metodi.
Ed è così che poi l’organizzazione finalizza la decisione rendendo nei fatti quello che la community stessa ha deliberato e votato, in quanto la maggior parte sono tutti d’accordo nel seguire quel tipo di progresso e c’è un allineamento diretto ed inequivocabile tra ciò che vogliono gli utenti o il gruppo, e quello che deve fare l’organizzazione.
Come funziona una DAO?
Considerando che stiamo parlando di qualcosa di decentralizzato, ovviamente la blockchain si presta bene a questo tipo di integrazione, in quanto la piattaforma DAO viene costruita al di sopra di una blockchain tramite uno smart contract, quindi stiamo parlando di una vera e propria dApp (applicazione decentralizzata).
Poi gli utenti posso accedere liberamente con il proprio wallet/account e con uno strumento, che di solito è il token della DAO stessa, gli utenti possono votare ed esprimere le loro opinioni in maniera diretta e votando sulle decisioni che saranno prese in futuro, quindi una specie di democrazia diretta della community, dove tutti possono votare (a patto di avere lo strumento idoneo, token fungibile o infungibile che sia).
Successivamente la proposta, che rimane attiva per un tempo predefinito, si conclude e tutti possono vedere il risultato della stessa e cosa ha deciso la community, e con il relativo risultato poi vengono mette in atto tutte quelle procedure per eseguire e realizzare il tutto.
Esempi di DAO
Per quanto possa sembrare qualcosa di incredibile la costituzione di una DAO, dobbiamo ricordare che ci sono già diversi esempi di DAO, sia legali che non, in quanto in questo settore e la maggior parte delle DAO che ci sono, sono di fatto illegali nel senso che non sono riconosciute o non hanno una forma legale dietro che possa effettivamente eseguire i risultati.
Ma escludendo le varie DAO farlocche, possiamo vedere che tra le DAO importanti c’è sicuramente quella di American CryptoFed DAO, che non solo è una DAO basata sulla blockchain di EOS, ma in più è la prima al mondo ad essere stata riconosciuta legalmente in America e nello stato del Wyoming.
Quindi in questo caso possiamo dire che ci sono tutti gli elementi, legali, per realizzare una DAO e con un obiettivo ben preciso, senza andare a ricercare i creatori o i loro pseudonimi, visto che la certezza, specialmente per le DAO, deve essere qualcosa di primaria importanza.
Inoltre ci sono piattaforme che permettono di creare DAO in maniera automatica come ad esempio DAO Bull.
Qual è la DAO più grande del mondo?
Veniamo quindi verso la fine dell’articolo e rispondiamo adesso alla domanda iniziale che ci siamo posti ossia qual è la DAO più grande del mondo?
Bene per poter capire ed identificare questa DAO, bisogna prendere in considerazione la capitalizzazione del token della DAO ed anche il relativo numero di token holder, in quanto maggiori saranno questi numeri e maggiore decentralizzazione raggiunge la DAO stessa, ed ovviamente un sistema che permette di votare o mettere in staking il relativo token.
Per avere un confronto con le varie DAO possiamo affidarci a questo sito dove sia per numero di token holder che per capitalizzazione pone Uniswap tra i candidati, con 307mila token holder e 2.1 miliardi di dollari, ma purtroppo non è la più grande DAO al mondo in quanto questo titolo spetta alla blockchain di EOS, in quanto è essa stessa una DAO dove i token holder possono tutti votare e prendere le decisioni insieme ai Block Producer, ed ecco che EOS può vantare ben 2.7 miliardi di dollari di capitalizzazione e con oltre 3.2 milioni di token holder, rendendola di fatto non solo la più grande ma anche la più decentralizzata sotto quel tipo di aspetto.
